How did we start?
The story is a rather an unusual one, for the company, Chuck The Tech Doctor was formed by a young Charles Smith who actually enjoyed videography, and originally had thought nothing about computers whatsoever.
From infancy, Smith loved making home movies with his Toys 'R Us Tyco camcorder, which was given to him as a gift by his aunt. Later, seen as how drawn Smith was to this hobby, his mother bought him a prosumer camcorder at age 7, which was a Quasar Palmcorder VM-D51.
As he grew older, Smith continued to stick to the path of videography. In middle school, when someone showed him a video of a recent school event Smith was involved in, he was amazed at how professionally presented it was on DVD coming from an ordinary individual. He then learned from the individual that the video was edited and completed using a computer. From this point on is where Charles Smith's interest in computers was peaked. Prior to this encounter, Smith had recorded videos from his camcorder straight to a VCR and later to a DVD recorder connected to a TV. From this point on, Smith never used those methods again, but did all editing on computer.
At 14, Charles Smith wanted a modern computer that would handle video editing to replace his decade-old Windows machine. The same aunt, mentioned earlier who bought the Tyco camcorder for him, this time bought him a Compaq Presario desktop from Wal-Mart. Put mildly, the machine was horrible! -Not just horrible for video editing, but horrible even for just basic computing. To avoid seeming ungrateful to and complete his videos, Smith decided to take it upon himself to see what the problem was with the machine and correct it, despite knowing nothing about computers. Smith later found that PC was just a big underachiever, having so many outdated components although being a new machine.
Smith took each part apart, piece by piece. He taught himself through diagrams and videos. When he came across words like, memory or RAM, processor, or video card, he then researched what the function of the part was and which of these would need to be upgraded for optimum performance. Ultimately, all the PC parts needed to be to upgraded. As he did so, well, one thing led to another, and what started as a daunting task of upgrading sparked a perpetual interest in computer technology. "Wow, computers are so complex; they're amazing!", he thought.
As Smith moved on from analog video to HD-based video file systems, Smith would sell that Compaq machine, and go on to buy others, adding parts, wherever he saw the need to make his machines fast enough to carry the heavy load HD video production brought on. As he customized machines, his knowledge would grow, and the more it grew, the more his love and hunger for more technological devices grew. Smith then went on to learn about operating systems, the Internet, Internet tools, web design, and programming languages. Computer systems which has owned since age 14 were a Compaq Presario, HP Pavilion Media Center TV PC, HP Pavilion DV9000, iMac and MacBook Pro.
Now inspired, Charles Smith realized that he had a gift, not in just videography but also in that of technology. He wanted to use this gift to help others and make himself happy. So, he decided to create for himself two businesses, a videography business, which is "Charles Smith VIdeo Productions" and a technology repair business called "Chuck The Tech Doctor", the site you are on now.
What sets us apart from competition are two things: price and service.
We realize your money and time are both very valuable to you.
1. We charge significantly less than the price of places like Geek Squad, Staples, and other stores becuase we think it is unreasonable to charge the prices they demand for such services.
2. Unlike our competitors, we offer more additional bonuses to our services. We offer free diagnosis and instead of taking weeks to repair or upgrade a system, we usually can do it in a few days or as little as one day. We offer pickup services and in-home repair, also known as "house calls".
With two great benefits like this, is there any reason why you wouldn't want to see the see the doctor?
